“White rust” the enemy of hot dip galvanized steel strip, profiles, tubes and pipes is in itself a form of corrosion that occurs during storage or during transportation , erection and is unacceptable for critical applications in automobile, telecom towers, nuts bolts & other construction industries.
Passivation treatments form a barrier to corrosion and are suitable for post Galvanizing. HODGA SAVE ( Passivation) treatments can be used to prevent the formation of wet storage stain. Passivation significantly slows the chemical reaction of zinc with substances in the environment & avoid formation of excessive zinc oxides and zinc hydroxides. Passivation layers therefore improve the corrosion behavior of the zinc coating. In practice, white rust can only become a problem in the case of freshly galvanized parts, as no protective topcoats have formed yet. Seasonal effects also play a role due to the fact that moisture plays a major part. White rust develops more frequently in the autumn and winter, due to frequent rainfall, fog and temperatures falling below dew point, encouraging the formation of white rust.
